Actually, you can color your hair brown with a professional product "Shades EQ" by Redkin, and will help your hair. Here's why. That particular product doesnt permently rearrange the cortex of the hair. It only coats the outer layer of the hair. When your hair is damaged the outer layer is "roughed" up. Applying Shaded EQ will help to lay the cuticle back down. And the resaon dark hair looks shinier and healthier is because Dark surfaces reflect light better then lighter surfaces. Thats why black cars look so shiny. So by "sealing" the cuticle, and going darker your will "appear" healthier. It will be just as damaged as before, but it will "look" healthier. You should not put any chemicals on damaged hair, it will make it worse. People always dump chemicals and dyes on hair that doesn't look good thinking that it's the same thing as a cosmetic, but it's not! And the instructions say to apply on "virgin and healthy hair only".

Just condition your hair as much as you can - deep conditioning, hot oils, leave-in creams, etc. And trim regularly until your hair grows out.
