If my hair is damaged, will dying it brown help or make it worse?

I know that brown hair generally looks healthier than blonde hair, and it is usually shinier and stuff, but will dying my already damaged hair brown make it break off?

Actually, you can color your hair brown with a professional product "Shades EQ" by Redkin, and will help your hair. Here's why. That particular product doesnt permently rearrange the cortex of the hair. It only coats the outer layer of the hair. When your hair is damaged the outer layer is "roughed" up. Applying Shaded EQ will help to lay the cuticle back down. And the resaon dark hair looks shinier and healthier is because Dark surfaces reflect light better then lighter surfaces. Thats why black cars look so shiny. So by "sealing" the cuticle, and going darker your will "appear" healthier. It will be just as damaged as before, but it will "look" healthier. This needs to be done by a professional. To go from light to dark takes a little more thought then just slapping on a color gloss. Hope that helps. I find that with my clients, getting them to place they are satisfied with their hairmusually helps them leave it alone long enough for it to regain some health.

If it's damaged don't put anymore chemicals on it until it's in better condition. Deep condition and ct the dead ends off.

Don't ever dye damaged hair. That will cause it to break right off. You're better off giving it good regular treatments and a good cut and start fresh. Once it's healthy again, then go ahead and dye it

it will make the condition of it worse in the present time but in the long run it will be healthier than bleaching it (if you are blonde).

i would say stay away from dying it or bleaching it and use some good deep conditioners and get a trim. good luck! it'll get better soon.

You should not put any chemicals on damaged hair, it will make it worse. People always dump chemicals and dyes on hair that doesn't look good thinking that it's the same thing as a cosmetic, but it's not! And the instructions say to apply on "virgin and healthy hair only".

Just condition your hair as much as you can - deep conditioning, hot oils, leave-in creams, etc. And trim regularly until your hair grows out.

  1. I had been going to the same salon for over 15 years and she would die it light brown with foil blonde streaks. This time she used a chemical that processes my hair faster than the usual 6 hours down to 2 hours. Either way my blonde has been breaking off since August and it is now going on 6months and my hair is extremely thin. how long does the breaking off last and when can I color is just brown ..no more bleach on my hair.
