A question about what to do to lighten hair? Please read details!!?

I just had my hair dyed two days ago and in order to get it healthy looking again I had to dye it almost as dark as my natural dark brown colour. Partly due to the fact that I wanted to cover the blondish highlights in it. Now after washing my hair once the colour is I'm pretty sure darker than my natural colour :( I would appreciate any advice or help on how to lighten my hair I do not want to have my hair stripped or anything but is it possible for me to have a toner put in at the salon to lighten it a bit more?? Or should I keep washing and let it fade? My hairdresser said to use head and shoulders or a cheap shampoo even sunlight dish detergent like once or twice to strip out the edge of the colour like the blackish deposits which it looks like. I am completely lost and just want it to be like a nice natural brown shade like Katie Holmes ish? Please help =) Thanks guys.

Hi

I did the same my hair nearly came out black i looked like a witch. what i have done is i used head and shoulders it did take a bit of the colour out but i did not notice when dry. i tryed baking soda as you do when you want results NOW lol. dont use it its awful on your hair it went rock hard, i soaked it in conditioner after, dish washing stuff just as bad. i done this over a forthnight. what i have done just this second is i brought some (super sun in) cost just over 鎷?.00 i did i test 1st underneath my hair and saw a very slight change so went a bit more spraying in my hands with gloves on just going through my hair keeping away from the roots then kept blowing drying it and then doing it over again, i have now midbrown high lights through it breaking the colour up it so much better, i am going to do it a again in few days time, make sure you use plently of conditioner after. my hair is very thick and coasre and strong. dont use washing liquid you will regret it. make sure you test sun in underneath your hair 1st so if it does go orangey it wont show, i have not gone orange at all with it. good luck. karen

Wash it everyday and it will gradually fade out.

Don't worry.

First, get a new hairdresser.

Second, go see the second hairdresser. Pick one recommended by someone who has had good success with their coloring ability. Have that person repair your hair.

If the best answer your hair dresser has is use harsh shampoo's and strip away color, he/she is not the person you want to fix their screw up.

Time may fade the color but if you really don't like it that may make every day a bad hair day for quite a long time.

I am a natural blonde who once had an idiot dye my hair black and green (circular stripes) instead of conditioning it after a perm. Now THAT was a shock when I looked in the mirror. She just ran out of the salon. It was also the last perm I plan to have in this lifetime!!!

The hairdresser is absolutely correct. Beyond stripping and re-coloring your hair, no toner is really going to show if it is as dark as you say. Toner will not lighten, only deposit more (unwanted) color. So keep washing it--and here is my tip:

I actually have found success with removing too-dark haircolor by mixing in some Arm %26amp; Hammer baking soda into the shampoo, and you use it to "scrub" the hair. Works for me when my color comes out a little dark. And just condition it well after you do that. Good Luck!!
